The Adoption Process and Information

 

Thank you for your interest in Under the Angel's Wings Rescue (UAWR). UAWR believes every horse deserves a good home. UAWR works with the prospective adopter and tries to find a good fit between adopter and horse. The entire process is based upon honesty and complete disclosure of all parties. We encourage you, the potential adopter to fully disclose your level of experience, plans for the horse, facilities to keep the horse, etc. This ensures that we can suggest a horse for you to adopt that best suits your individual situation, and the abilities of the particular horse. Our adoption application may seem extensive to some of you, but we hope to make the right "match" between horse and adopter the first time to alleviate stress on both the adopter and the horse. Please do not hesitate to call or e-mail us with your questions even after the adoption process is complete. Our first concern is that of the horse, and if there is anything at all we can be of assistance with, we encourage you to contact us.

Please e-mail us for an application, complete the application and read the "Rules of Adoption/Adoption Policies". Our "Rules of Adoption" is a binding legal contract and you MUST abide by them! If you feel you cannot comply with our rules for whatever reason, we can certainly refer you to a number of other organizations that may be of assistance to you in find the right horse for you. You must be at least 25 years of age to adopt a horse. If you are not yet 25, then a parent or guardian must contact us to complete and sign all necessary paperwork.

Following are the guidelines for the Adoption Process. This will give you information on what to expect next in the process and what is required to adopt.

 

1. You need to read The Rules of Adoption/Adoption Policies, then you must fill out and return the UAWR Adoption Application.

2. UAWR will review your application and check references once we have received your $25.00 non-refundable application donation. We ask for this in order to cover the time and costs of reference checks, phone calls, etc. The $25.00 NON-Refundable application donation DOES NOT guarantee you will be approved to adopt from UAWR, but in order to be considered and for us to take the time to process paperwork and make phone calls the application fee is required.

3. UAWR will schedule an appointment for you to come and see the horses that are available.

4. After you have found an appropriate horse UAWR will schedule a site check where the horse will be kept.

5. If everything checks out well, you will then need to pay your adoption fees and sign the final adoption contract.

6. Last, but not least transportation can be arranged to get your new horse home.
