“Lily”

Lily is Here and SAFE!!!

Lily was born approx June 2007 and at some point in her 4 short months of life she has developed "Contracted Tendons" on her right front leg. Her owners felt that surgery was the only "fix" for her and were not willing to do so. Lily was scheduled to be euthanized that same day that we were able to jump in and save her. Lily has now arrived at UAWR in order to start her second chance at life and healing.

This filly is HUGE for 4 months old and it is my thought that her rapid growth has contributed greatly to her condition. From my understanding tendons themselves do not contract it is the muscles that tighten and pull on those tendons which creates the "contraction". The tightening of muscles can be caused by many different reasons. I feel that Lily has several nutritional imbalances that have lead her to the issues she is experiencing now. I have done muscle testing on her and found her to be very off in magnesium which was to be expected because of being fed alfalfa in her diet which is high in calcium and creates an excess of calcium. Calcium and magnesium go hand in hand soooooooo an excess of calcium creates a deficiency of magnesium and magnesium is needed for relaxation of muscles. I could go on and on about the nutritional balances and what had gone wrong with her but in a nut shell we are starting her on some supplements from Dynamite Marketing which I have had some great success with and we will also be doing massage and physical therapy. We will give her about 30 days and re-evaluate from there. If we are not able to completely fix her with nutritional changes she might need to have a surgery done.

Lily is just the sweetest girl you have ever met. She was even out with Simon today and when I went to put Simon and Lily away in her stall I did not even have to halter her I simply put my arm around her and she followed me everywhere I wanted to go.....most full grow horses without training will not do this and this young girl with very little training just came right along with me...what a gem this girl is with a heart of gold!!

I will continue to add pictures and updates as we go along with Lily.

Above you can see several different views of her foot. The problem she has does not allow her heel to press down to the ground so that is what causes her to walk on the tip toe of her hoof. Pictures taken 10-12-2007
